چکیده

UNLABELLED Mismatch Negativity is an endogenous potential which reflects the processing of differences incurred in the acoustic stimulus. AIM to characterize MMN responses in elderly subjects and compare with adult subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS prospective study involving 30 subjects, 15 men and 15 women, aged between 60 and 80 years and 11 months. Statistical test: Mann-Whitney. The subjects went through medical evaluation, threshold tonal audiometry, immittance tests, otoacoustic emissions and short and long latency auditory potentials (MMN). RESULTS mean latency was 161.33 ms (CZA2) and 148.67 ms (CZA1), in women; of 171 ms (CZA2) and 159.07 ms (CZA1), men. Mean amplitude was -2.753 microV (CZA2) and -2.177 microV (CZA1), women; -1.847 microV (CZA2) and -1.953 microV (CZA1), men. As to the right and left hemispheres, mean latency variable of 166 ms (CZA2) and 153.87 ms (CZA1); for the amplitude variable, mean value of -2.316 microV (CZA2) and -2.065 microV (CZA1). CONCLUSION there is no statistically significant difference between the latency and amplitude when we compared males and females, right and left sides in the elderly and between chronologic ages between adults and elderly subjects.

Mismatch negativity and late discriminative negativity in sleeping human newborns.

Event-related potentials were recorded from sleeping newborns to compare amplitudes and latencies of mismatch negativity (MMN) and late discriminative negativity (LDN) in active and quiet sleep stages. MMN and LDN were obtained in response to changes in semi-synthesized vowels from 20 healthy newborn infants. MMN and LDN responses were significant for both active and quiet sleep. The amplitude ...

Using mismatch negativity to measure auditory temporal resolution thresholds.

It has been hypothesized that poor auditory temporal resolution is related to language-learning problems in children as well as problems with speech perception in noise in the elderly. We show that the presence of occasional silent gaps between short tone pips elicits mismatch negativity (MMN) in young adults. We also measured gap-detection thresholds with MMN that agree well with behavioural t...

Mismatch negativity: no difference between treatment-naive alcoholics and controls.

BACKGROUND Several studies have examined the mismatch negativity (MMN) evoked potential as a measure of a brain inhibitory deficit in alcoholics or those at risk for alcoholism. This study examined MMN in actively drinking treatment-naive alcohol-dependent individuals. This study examined the association of MMN with risk factors for alcoholism, postalcohol withdrawal hyperexcitability, and alco...

Mismatch negativity, social cognition, and functioning in schizophrenia patients.

BACKGROUND Cognition and social cognition have been found to influence functional outcome in schizophrenia patients. However, little is known about the underlying neural substrates that are associated with social cognition or daily functioning. Prior studies found associations between mismatch negativity (MMN), an event-related potential response indexing early auditory processing, and function...
